This artwork is the result of our present situation. The virus is only a small part of it, but it has brought to light the dualistic way of thinking of the human race. The real virus is in our misplaced concept, that we are separate from nature and each other. Our problems are visible in the racism, classism, and castism prevalent in our society. I have shown that in the crown of Mother Earth which includes the church, temple, and other places of worship which also symbolize the divisions in our thoughts and its effects. In the 15th century, Guru Nanak had said ‘Ek Onkar’ which means that we are one. All creation is part of one whole unit. As we fail to bring that into perspective we are depleting the minerals and other precious resources of Gaia which are symbolized in the gems scattered in the right corner of the painting. Our greed has no bounds and Mother Earth has had enough of it. She has taken charge and is now taking time to rejuvenate herself and giving us the opportunity to mend our thinking and behavior. The rainbow above her head reaching for the sky is a symbol of the clear skies and cleaner atmosphere that is gradually coming as we shelter in. As we get a glimpse of the cleaner air we need to focus on what legacy do we want to leave for our kids or the future generations. Do we want to leave them a polluted world with a mask covering their faces; or a natural wonder with flora, fauna, animals, and people that are able to coexist in peace and harmony without corruption or political agendas. The rainbow is us all, a distant utopia trying to overcome dystopia. Can we make the rainbow a reality?
